Q: Does teletherapy cost the same as a physical face to face session in your office?
A: Yes, the fee is the same because the only thing that has changed is the modality in which I work from.
Q: What if I only have a cell phone?
A: I can provide some support over the phone and my video platform does work on cell phones.
Q: What if my child is quiet on facetime with family? Will he/she benefit from therapy on a screen?
A: Most children engage easily with the clinician as the digital and nondigital activities are meant to be age appropriate and
fun from the outstart in order to motivate learning.
Q: What is the length of a typical follow-up session?
A: Sessions are 30- 50 minutes, including paper work., depending on the type of intervention and the age of the child.
Q: Where does the assessment or therapy take place?
A: Therapy/Assessment takes place within in your home via telepractice during the health crisis, otherwise, within the speech
clinic at 555 Legget Dr. , Suite 216, Kanata North. Office meetings are not an option at this time but telepractice is for most
people to get the care they need at an optimal developmental time for children.
Q: What do I need at home to engage my child in teletherapy?
A: You need a desk top or laptop computer, a tablet, or Smart Phone. A webcam is also essential, either built into your device
or an external one.If your child is a toddler (36 months or younger), I will request that we meet with some activities at your
end specific to your child's age and interest.
Q: What video conferencing application will I need to download?
A: You will not need to download any software.
Q: What forms of payment are accepted?
A: Fees can be paid by: Electronic transfer, Personal Cheque, or Cash at the time of your visit. During the health crisis, etransfer is easiest.
Q: Are receipts provided per session?
A: Yes. Receipts are provided for all services and can be sent by Canada post or by email.
Q: Can I claim speech/language services under my personal insurance?
A: Yes. If you do not have personal insurance, speech services can also be claimed under Medical on your income tax forms.
Q: Do I need an initial assessment to receive therapy?
A: Yes. An initial assessment provides important information about therapy goals. Assessments are scheduled on an hourly basis
and can range from 1-3 hours but not all at once given a telepractice modality.
Q: Am I required to do anything during the sessions?
A: Yes. You or another adult must attend all teletherapy sessions to support your child's learning during the session and in
between sessions.Suggestions on what to work on are provided specific to your child's needs.
Q: How long before improvement in speech or language skills is noticeable?
A: Usually as little as 1-3 sessions provides noticeable improvement. However, every child is different and some may require
more time especially those individuals with a diagnosis of Language Learning Disability (LLD) and Developmental Delay.
